Meet Kim Coombs— College Park Interior Designer and Business Owner

Hi, I’m Kim Coombs, Bewley for those who’ve been around a long time! I love living in College Park, the people are so dang friendly, there’s good food, its accessible and it feels like a small town without being a small town!

Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
My daughter is in school here in College Park and we love the community that she is part of. My mom and stepdad are close in Longwood along with my SIL, nieces and nephew. My dad and stepmom are here part-time when they aren’t in Colorado Springs with my stepsister and brother and my brother lives in New Smyrna.

Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?
I have The.Best.Job! I went to Florida State for Interior Design and FAMU for Architecture, earning my degree in Interior Design. I opened KBCO Design after working for architects designing high-end residential, theme parks and hospitality projects around the world. We are blessed with amazing clients and projects! Where else can we design “the World’s Best Kids Suites” which are crazy fun and creative and then design for some of the most exquisite homes and properties in the world? In addition to my design job, I’m usually learning about something in the health or wellness field. I am fascinated with how we design our lives, from our environment to our food, basically how we live, love, and laugh!

Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?
Rusteak, Infusion Tea, Tornatores, Blended Bistro

Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?
I moved to College Park in 2013

Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?
There are so many interesting people in this community, that’s tough! Probably the Cowherds, who has 7 kids, businesses and more and still looks relaxed and is smiling, it’s amazing!

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
Another tough one! Either Byron Bay, Australia for the beach, laid back environment and great food or Tokyo, Japan for the big but CLEAN city, shopping (not clothes though, they don’t fit me…), and yes… food!

Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?
The TV is not on much… Planet Earth, HG TV, the Masked Singer

Q: What advice would you give to people?
Smile, Be Kind, Don’t Give Up, Don’t Compare, Avoid Negativity, Make Peace With Your Past, Take Care of Your Mind & Body

Q: What is something on your bucket list?

Q: What is your go to band when you cant decide what to listen to?

Q: What current or former local business makes you the most nostalgic about our community?
The jewelry, art and lock shop on Edgewater although I’m not sure if they all survived Covid

Q: If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would y’all meet for this lunch?
Elon Musk- hmmm taking suggestions on where?

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
The PEOPLE… and that I can leave on Saturday morn and not brush my hair… seriously.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
In 10 years I will be happy and laughing, enjoying the sun, freedom, my family and all of the adventures that we have while sharing my knowledge and improving lives through designed environments
